Eva Von Goria
Sister to LRG's Spooky Von Strange, I had a lot to prove when I first laced up my skates and joined SSRG…..
I didn't have a clue what roller derby was before I watched my sister skate at Summer Shovin' in July 2008, she had tried to explain the rules, but I think you have to see a bout to really "get" the sport! After watching the London girls I was hooked, but hadn't considered trying it for myself until Spooky sent me the link to a MySpace page advertising a league starting up in Sheffield. I messaged Go-Go, went along to Skate Central to see if I could even stand up on skates (just about!) and have never looked back!
My favourite positions are B3 and B4, although I jam more now than I used to - as an aggressive jammer I'm hard to knock down and more likely to hit opposing blockers out of the way than hop round them, but that can end with me being sat in the sin bin - oops!
My favourite derby memory is from our first bout against RWRG (2010: A Skate Odyssey) - it was a really close-fought bout with Windsor just ahead of us throughout most of the game, but as we entered the final jam 8 points down Mia managed to pull off an amazing power-jam which ended with a 5-point win for SSRG…..I was skating in the pack for that jam and it was the best feeling!
