I got into roller derby really by accident, looking for something to do on Sunday afternoons that was more fun than lazing around eating chocolate. By chance i saw an article in the local paper about a new women’s sport called Roller Derby and the Sheffield team that was looking for members. A quick Google later and I was really excited to give it a go.

After 90 mins attempting to skate, hitting the walls as i couldn’t turn and a lot of falling over. I went home that night completely knackered and could hardly move, but totally hooked I ordered my own skates very shortly afterwards.

I kept turning up week after week slowly becoming competent and finally being able to pass my minimum skill test and ready for bouting.

So many highlights with SSRG, 1st x-overs, 1st Scrimmage,my 1st bout. Amazing feelings.

There have been some tough times as well. I’d dislocated my shoulder twice skating , on the 3rd time I was ready to give up, but luckily it popped straight back in again, that experience made me realise how precious skating with SSRG is, I decided from then on to give it 100%, to attend every session and push myself as much as i could, I realised that every time i skate it could be the last so best get as much out of it as I can.

To be part of the growth of SSRG has been so special for me, meeting wonderful people from all over the U.K, learning from some of the best skaters in the world and passing those skills on to our other skaters is as good as any Win (But still want more of those)
